DAVID BYRNE: ACCIDENTAL
PHOTOGRAPHY
Little did we know that David Byrne was conducting his own shoot while
being photographed for the cover of our Visual Jukebox issue. As photographer
Nancy Froehlich tended to details between shots, Byrne quietly clicked
away with the '50s-era, German-made EXA.la camera given to him as
a prop. Curious, Nancy later developed the film as an afterthought.
We were thrilled to discover that, in the process of amusing himself
between poses, Byrne produced half a roll of compelling shots. (We
weren't too surprised—David is an accomplished photographer with
several books of his images widely available.)
David liked the results, too, and entitled each photo for presentation
here. Following are his favorites from the "accidental shoot":
